Yevgenia Chikunova (18, Russia) set a new world record in swimming women’s 200m breaststroke.
Chikunova took a touch pad at 2:17:55메이저놀이터 in the women’s 200m breaststroke final at the Russian Swimming Championships held in Kazan, Russia on the 22nd (Korean time).
Her 2:17:55, set by Chikunova on this day, is a new world record, 1 second and 40 seconds ahead of the world record of 2:18:95 set by Tatiana Skunmarker (South Africa) at the Tokyo Olympics on July 30, 2021.
An official from the International Swimming Federation said in an interview with Reuters, “We will go through the world record approval process by the federation. If all criteria are met, it will be officially recognized as a world record.”
The International Swimming Federation banned Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February last year, and Belarusian athletes who helped Russia from participating in international competitions.
However, the federation recently foretold the relaxation of the rules to open the way for Russian and Belarusian players to compete in international competitions as individuals.
Chikunova, born in 2004, competed as a member of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), which is effectively a ‘neutral country’, in the women’s 200m breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics, which Skoon Marker won, and came in fourth with a time of 2 minutes 20 seconds 88.
Chiku Nova, who has grown significantly in two years, could aim for her medals at the World Championships in Fukuoka this July and the Olympics in Paris next July, once IFA restrictions are eased.
