San Diego Padres’ Ha-Sung Kim (27) set a new Major League Baseball (MLB) single-season record for most hits by an individual. Pittsburgh Pirates’ Bae Ji-hwan (24) extended his hitting streak to five games.
Kim batted 1-for-4 in the leadoff spot against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, U.S., on Nov. 11. His season average remained at .271 (131-for-484).
After a well-hit ball to right field in the first inning was caught in front of the plate, Kim led off the second inning with a double. He flicked a low sweeper outside off Houston starter J.P. Franks, and center fielder Chas McCormick made a diving catch.
The umpire called it an out, but video review showed that the ball touched the ground first and the hit was reversed. It was Kim’s 131st hit of the season. With the hit, Kim surpassed his 130 hits from last year to set a new big league single-season record.안전놀이터
Kim led off the fifth inning with a line drive to right field, but was denied a multi-hit game by a diving catch. His final at-bat in the seventh inning ended with an infield grounder. Kim briefly moved to shortstop in the seventh before being replaced by Brett Sullivan in the eighth. San Diego scored eight runs in the sixth inning alone and fell to 2-12.
